G-Eazy and Rick Ross

So, Back In January I got a call from DJ Edubble to come to the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA and Photograph The G-Eazy concert. To be completely honest i had never really listened to G before but I knew that he had a lot of talent and his fans loved him.

I arrived to the Arena of the concert about an hour and a half early so I could get a good feel for the arena and find sections of it that would make good photos. When I arrived there was a long line of fans waiting outside for the doors to open.. Little did I know that line wrapped around the whole arena. I don’t think I have ever seen a line that long in my entire life. After seeing that I knew that this concert was going to be Insane. The time reached 7:00 p.m. and the fans started rushing in, about a half hour later there was a sea of fans signing and dancing to all the music the DJ was playing. We were backstage waiting to go inside G’s dressing room when A$AP Ferg went on stage and had the crowd going insane to his hit song ” Work “.

Finally, We were let into his dressing room. G looked at me, shook my hand, and said ” Whats good man?” and Introduced himself as Gerald ( his real name). While we were interviewing G I realized how humble he was and how much he loved his fans and everyone who supports him. After the interview was over we left his room and thats when I knew it was my time to shine. I ran up into ” Pit ” and started messing around with my Camera settings so I would have a good exposure for when he came out.

The time Reached 9:00p.m. and all the sudden there he was. G-Eazy just standing on stage with thousands of fans screaming and chanting his name. I can only Imagine how awesome that must feel! As he performed I kept shooting I must have shot over 500 photos in his 45 minutes of performing. All I can say is that man really knows how to put on a show! I could put money on it that every person in that crowd had a great time. Im excited to do it again once G comes back to Boston!

Rick Ross

Later that night me and Edubble drove about a half hour south of lowell  to Rio Night Club in Lawrence, MA. At this night club a legend in Hip-Hop, Rick Ross was having a party for the release of his new Album ” Black Market” and believe me I was more than excited to photograph this one!

Ever since I was little I was a fan of Rick Ross. I remember being like 8 years old and listening to ” Hustlin ” on repeat on my MP3 player while hanging around the house and my mom yelling at me for listening to music with swears in it! At this point I was excited, I never thought at 20 years old I would be photographing someone as big as Rick Ross, someone I looked up to in a way since i was little.

The time seemed to be moving so slow because I was  excited for Ross to get on stage and start rapping. In the nicest way I just wanted all the locals who were opening for him to get off stage so he could come on.

After about an hour of locals opening up all the sudden the music changed and all you hear is the song ” So Sophisticated ” by Rick Ross and Meek Mill come on. The DJ was playing Meek’s part for about a minute, then all of the sudden Ross’ part came on and you hear him starting to Rap. Shortly after he came around from backstage and walked towards the front of the stage and started rapping. Immediately I started shooting trying to snap every good photo of him I could. As he was rapping, in the back of my head I was praying he would perform his part in my favorite song ” New Flame “. As the time passed he kept performing other songs. He introduced himself, talked about his new album and thanked all of us for being there, and even did his signature ” RUHH” grunt and then said ” BOSS “. Then, finally, the beat dropped and it was New Flame. To be honest I was so excited I didn’t take a single photo while he performed it. I just jammed out and filmed it on my phone.

After New Flame was done he performed one last song and then quickly left and took off in the tour bus. I have to say Rick Ross is even better live than he is if you were to download his music or listen online.

Between The G-Eazy show and the Rick Ross show, Friday January 22nd was a night to remember. It was such a great opportunity for me to get into the music scene and it also opened a lot of doors for me. Check back in a few days for my next blog post!!

Thanks!!
